Obituary of Ferne Elizabeth Brown

Ferne Elizabeth Brown of Laramie, Wyoming, died peacefully May 30, 2014 in Colorado Springs surrounded by her family. Ferne was born on Christmas Eve, 1917 in Salida, Colorado to Arthur Guy and Jesse Fern West. Not expected to live through the night she beat the odds for 96 years. A Colorado native and pioneer, she grew up in Howard and Salida along with her siblings, Mary Louise and Guy Wayne. While living in Salida, she met and married the love of her life, Carl Brown, on Thanksgiving Day in 1939, sharing 61 years of loving marriage until Carl's passing in 2000.Ferne recently returned to Colorado where she spent the last year of her life reunited with her beloved sister, Mary Louise Eisele, living together in Colorado Springs. She warmed the hearts of all who knew her. Her generosity and gracious spirit reflected in her volunteer work in the community, her commitment to her faith in God and unconditional love and devotion for her family and friends.Ferne and Carl were the proud parents of son Steve and daughter Kathy, daughter-in-law Yvonne and son-in-law JR, but were "Mom and Dad" to countless others for whom they opened their hearts and home. Their family values were lovingly passed down to their grandchildren David, Christopher and Lauren, great grandchildren Shane, Juliana and Isabella, and many nieces and nephews.This precious soul leaves a hole in our lives but a fullness in our hearts. Ferne & Carl will be reunited to rest eternally together in the town where they met, Salida, Colorado. In lieu of flowers please donate to Gentiva Hospice or a charity of your choice.
