Obituary of Carol Beth Savangrat

Carol B Savangrat passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 1, 2014 in her home in Calhan, CO.Carol was born April 13th, 1960 in Brainerd, MN to Norman and Barbara Amelung. She then moved to Denver, Colorado in the early 1980s before relocating to her homestead in Calhan, CO in 1994.Over the years, Carol had provided a home for at least one of nearly every type animal one could imagine; including horses, llamas, goats and chickens but particularly enjoyed raising dogs. She started breeding Great Pyrenees and went on to produce many litters of Shihtzu and Corgi puppies. Her dogs were truly an extension of her family and she loved them like her own children. Those who knew her were most touched by her selfless generosity, kindness, and willingness to go beyond her means to help her friends, family and neighbors, as well as her ceaseless pursuit of self sufficiency through environmental stewardship and thoughtful, clever homesteading. She could rarely be found indoors as she loved being outside with her animals, or tending to the vegetables and flowers in her recently completed greenhouse.Carol is survived by her three daughters; Sheila Snyder, Sheva Willoughby, and Shannon Savangrat, as well as her mother Barbara Amelung and three brothers Jim, Jack and Charles Amelung.A private family memorial will be held and her remains will be laid to rest in Grand Lake, CO where she loved to spend time with her family on the lake. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colorado Animal Welfare League at www.coloradoanimalwelfare.org (cash, check or PayPal).
