Obituary of James Franklin Tillman
James F. Tillman, a lifelong active member of the community, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Jim was born on June 21, 1949, in Denver, Colorado to Franklin and Margaret Tillman. He graduated from Air Academy High School and subsequently received his Bachelor's Degree in accounting from the University of Denver and his Master's Degree in Biology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Jim was truly a man of many talents and interests. He was a CPA and for several years a principal in the accounting firm of Tillman & Long, as well as an entrepreneur and small business owner. For many years, he has owned and operated a ranch near Calhan, Colorado. Jim was passionate about everything he did. He recently supervised and performed much of the construction of his ranch home. He loved his horses, loved riding and trailered them all over the country to ride spectacular trails. An expert skier, he took to the slopes at every opportunity. Most important to him was that he could share all these adventures with his longtime companion, Patty, and his many friends. His "can do, make it happen" attitude for helping friends and family will always be remembered. His father, Franklin, preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Monica Tillman and Michelle Houston, a grandson Alexander Houston, his mother, Margaret, a sister, Jane Carnahan, two brothers, Robert and William, his companion Patricia "Patty" McGlothlin and his beloved dog, Kricket. Private family services are planned. Cards and prayers are appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
