Obituary of Claude Alonzo Cowart

Claude Cowart, 91, passed away on August 26 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.Claude grew up in Montgomery, AL with his parents and 2 brothers, and attended Auburn University where he met his wife, Jacqueline.While at Auburn, Claude joined the Army Air Corps to defend his country as a pilot in WWII. After serving his duty, he completed his degree at Auburn in Civil Engineering and later added an MBA from the University of Colorado. He also served in Korea and Vietnam, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel.Upon retiring from the Air Force, Claude joined Colorado College and eventually became the Director of the Physical Plant, where he worked for 20 years, growing the Squash program and becoming affectionately known as Coach. After leaving CC, Claude continued to remain active in the local engineering community as well as Rotary International (Rotarian of the Year in 2011) and Guillermo's Squash Club (elected to National Jester status). Claude is survived by his wife Jackie of 70 years, daughter Carolyn Rose, sons John, Russ, Cooper, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.A private ceremony will be held on Saturday September 6th followed by a public reception at 1pm at Broadmoor Community Church.
