Obituary of Don Dean Dyck
Donald Dyck was born in Geneva, Illinois in 1937. He graduated from Wheaton College with a bachelor of music degree in piano in 1959. While in college, he was involved in the ROTC and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in artillery in the United States Army upon graduation in 1959. He also graduated from the Army Command and Staff College, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and received a Master of Science Degree in Business Management from Troy State University, Troy, Alabama. During his military service, he received the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for outstanding performance of duty. Mr. Dyck served in the Army on active duty for twenty years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. While in the Army, he served at posts all over the world, making use of his music degree by serving as chapel organist in Texas, Colorado, Vietnam, Korea, and Fulda and Darmstadt, Germany. He was appointed senior organist of First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, CO in 1978. Mr. Dyck received the Associate Certificate from the American Guild of Organists in 1985. Mr. Dyck and his wife of 56 years, the former Joyce M. VanDeKoppel, operate a tree farm/cattle ranch near Westcreek, Colorado. They are the parents of three sons, Jerome (Kim), Jon, and Jeffrey (Julie).
