Obituary of Columbus "Willie" Wilton Shaver
Columbus Wilton (Willie) Shaver, age 80, a Colorado Springs resident since 1947, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.Columbus Wilton Shaver was born on November 13, 1933 in Humboldt, Tennessee to the late Columbus and Jewell (Miller) Shaver. He attended high school in Colorado Springs and received his diploma from Folsom High School in California in 1953. He married Carolyn Ann Spears on June 14, 1953. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. During the Belgium Conflict, he was held captive in Africa for 30 days and would not leave his aircraft. He was a member of the "Sneaky Petes" squadron with the C130 unit in Germany during the Cold War.He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his four daughters: Cynthia Calhoun, Pamela (Michael) Durst, Cheryl (Russell) Johnson, Kathryn (Scott) McDonald and his eleven grandchildren: Rachel, Daniel, Kenneth, Sean, Cory, Tiffany, Bridget (Todd) King, Doris, Carolyn, Ashley and Benjamin. He has five great grandchildren: Lelia, Lilianna, Joshua, Theresa, and Delilah.He was retired from the United States Air Force. He had attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served his country honorably for more than twenty years. He was the former Commander of the American Legion Post 39 in Manitou Springs and past Commander of the DAV Knob Hill Chapter 26 where he was instrumental in the construction of the new building on Palmer Park Boulevard.He was a life member of the VFW and the DAV and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and will be best remembered for his patriotism.A visitation will be held from 2:00PM-4:00PM, Sunday, November 16, 2014 at The Springs Funeral Services., 3115 E. Platte Avenue.A Funeral Service will be held, 9:30AM on Monday, November 17, 2014 at The Springs Funeral Services Chapel. A Luncheon Reception will then be held at 11:00AM at the DAV Knob Hill Chapter 26, 6880 Palmer Park Boulevard.
