Obituary of Mary Jane Tilkens
Mary J. Tilkens (Cotton), 78, a Colorado Springs resident, died at Aspen Living Center. Mary was born in Pleasant Hill, Missouri to Buford and Rachel (Hamilton) Cotton. Mary served in the WAC (Women's Army Corps) right out of high school. Mary married Marvin Tilkens (deceased), in September 1963 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.Mary worked various jobs but was most proud of being a Homemaker. She raised five children, which is her crowning accomplishment. Marvin served in the Army and she lived in various places from Italy to Germany to Virginia to Colorado. She was an avid football fan and cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs until the end. Her favorite singer was Elvis Presley. Mary is survived by her children, step children and their spouses, Garry Hyland (Debbie), Timothy Tilkens (Boni), Judith Russell (Roy), Barbara Archer, Sheri DiSalvo (Anthony), Cynthia Keith (Kevin) and Charles Tilkens, Sr, (Karen) ; her eleven grandchildren; and eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sister and spouses, Buford Cotton, Jr. (Lois), James Cotton (Mary Evelyn), Donald Cotton (Deidre) and Bonnie.
