Obituary of Robert Lewis Vincent
Robert L. Vincent, born in Pleasant Hill, South Carolina, died December 9, 2014, in Florence, Colorado, after a long declining illness. He is survived by his wife, Mary Vincent; two sons, David Vincent and John (Laura) Vincent, grandchildren, Hannah, Timothy and Marlaina, of Newport News, Virginia; one brother, Ralph Vincent of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lou (Monty) Spooner of Colorado Springs and Gwen Mosley of Lancaster, South Carolina; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Vincent and Lessie Vincent; and sister, Betty Catoe.Robert spent one year in the Navy and nine years in the Army, discharging in 1964. After graduating from college in 1969 he went to work for the Veterans Administration in Downey, Illinois, in the Personnel office. He worked over 25 years for the VA in various hospitals all over the country, retiring in 1994 in San Antonio, Texas. His favorite hobbies were golf and shooting pool. He also liked to play bridge, poker and pinocle, winning several championships over time. His gregarious personality and charming ways endeared him to all who met him. He loved music and was often whistling a tune or humming. He was an accomplished karaoke singer, noted for his rendition of "New York, New York." At one time in his life he taught dancing in the Arthur Murray Dance schools.His greatest desire was to help people. He became a channel of comfort, counsel, and support for his family and friends. We will miss him terribly.
