Obituary of Jess Walter Knight
Jess Walter Knight of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2014 under the care of Pikes Peak Hospice. Jess was born October 2, 1949 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Charles and Lila Downing Knight. He attended Central High School in Grand Junction. He started working for Westland Theatres in 1967 and while working at the Mesa Theatre he met Karen Widegren. They were married on March 30, 1969 in Grand Junction and soon after moved to Colorado Springs. He managed several movie theatres including the 8th Street Drive-In, The Peak and The Cinema 70. He retired from Westland after 17 years and turned his attention to golf. He became a PGA Teaching Professional and was the head pro at Cherokee Ridge and Pine Creek. Jess loved to cook and was the go-to chef for all family functions. He had a tremendous sense of humor, a quick wit and a warm, friendly smile. He was a die-hard Denver Bronco and Colorado Avalanche fan. Jess had recently begun attending Sunnyside Christian Church. Jess is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen; daughter, Heather (Collin) Burton; son, Derek; daughter-in-law, Heather; grandsons, Justin Proffitt and Max Knight; granddaughter, Jordyn; mother, Lila of Colorado Springs; a sister, Nancy (Galen) Rupe of Wasilla, AK; and his beloved cat, Abby. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; brother, Jim; sister, Charlene; niece, BethAnn; and his much-loved cat, Rita.
