Obituary of Danny Gordon Abbott
The Man, The Myth, The Legend – "Dirty Dan" Danny AbbottLongtime Aspen local, Danny Abbott, passed away at the age of 73 on January 8, 2015 after a long fight with Parkinson's Disease.Born June 11, 1941, in Glendale, California to Doris and Gordon Abbott, Danny moved to Aspen in the early 1960s, spending nearly 4 decades as a beloved part of the community. During that time, Danny worked as a waiter in several local restaurants, was with Gene Bishop Plumbing and Howard's garage and was a beloved fixture for years at City Market.Danny is survived by his sister, Kathee Anderson of Salinas, California; and his bother Tom Abbott of Oahu, Hawaii. He is also survived by his children, daughter, Gwen Abbott Asmussen; and son Jeremy Abbott. He was immensely proud of their accomplishments and would post articles about their accomplishments on his locker at work so everyone would know how proud he was. He even went so far as to get a tattoo of the Olympic rings, the only tattoo he ever got. But the only thing Danny loved nearly as much as his children was Aspen itself. Due to his health, Danny had to move to the Grand Valley in 2001, finally settling in Grand Junction. During his time there, he worked on restoring a 1929 Model A Roadster pickup. He also discovered a love of making his own wine, which won numerous local and state awards. Danny purchased a commercial building in Palisade that he restored with Gwen's help.A service and party to honor Danny's memory is being planned; date and times to be announced. In lieu of flowers or gifts, his children request that donations be made in his memory to the Michael J.
