Obituary of Paula L. Campbell

It is with profound regret that we announce the passing of Paula L. Campbell, beloved wife, mother, and gifted educator, on February 7th, 2015 at Pikes Peak Hospice.Paula was born on December 31, 1948 at Yakota Air Force Base in Japan, to William and Jean Whalley. Paula was the fourth of their six children. Being the daughter of an Air Force pilot, Paula experienced the joys of travel in foreign lands as well as many stateside postings. These travel experiences only wetted Paula's appetite for subsequent travel to China, Italy, Greece, Switzerland and Germany, along with Canada and Mexico. These trips were with her daughter, sisters, and like-minded friends.Paula knew early on that she wanted to be a teacher and started her career in Colorado Springs School District 11 in 1973 as a teacher's aide. From there she went on to become a teacher and administrator in multiple schools at all levels, and even taught extension classes through the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. After 32 years of teaching, Paula retired in 2004 as principal of Patrick Henry Elementary School where she was adored by the students and staff.Paula's greatest joy and sense of accomplishment was the birth of her daughter Laura in December of 1971, followed by a second opportunity to mold a budding life in 1993 with the arrival of Mitchell, her grandson. In addition to continued travel, Paula's interests during retirement included scrapbooking, cross stitch, tending to her flowers, and involvement with her community HOA Board.Paula was pre-deceased by her parents as well as her brothers, Timothy and Bill Whalley. She was married to Roy (Pete) Oldfield, whom she dearly loved, and is survived by him and daughter Laura (Tim) Scott and grandson Mitchell Blain. Additionally, she has three sisters, Pam (John) Blue, Penny Martin, and Kimberlee (Mike) Chatterley, and a host of nieces and nephews. Paula believed strongly in the value of family and we are all very grateful that she took every opportunity to express this believe throughout her life.A celebration of life will be held at Patrick Henry Elementary School on February 14, 2015 at 10:00am.Please join us in celebrating Paula's life and sharing in your anecdotal insights of her life.Memorial contributions can be made in Paula's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909 Events Service Saturday, February 14, 2015 10:00AM Patrick Henry Elementary School 1310 Lehmberg Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80915 Phone: 719-328-1793
