Obituary of Gregory Winston Thomas
Gregory Winston Thomas was born on August 30th, 1948 to Curtis and Coradah Thomas in Los Angeles, California. He was affectionately nicknamed "Googie" and called that by close relatives and friends. Educated in the Los Angeles Public School system, he attended 37th Street Elementary School, Foshay Junior High and Manual Arts High School. Greg was introduced to baseball at a very early age and eventually joined the neighborhood little league. Who knew this would last for more than thirty years! After graduating high school in 1966, he attended LACC for a short period of time. He decided he needed more action, so he enlisted in the Air Force in 1967.. Greg has served military duties in many countries. Korea, Japan, Alaska, Germany and Saudi Arabia were among them as well as Wyoming, Denver and California. Many awards and ribbons were earned during his air force career. The Air Force Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon, The Air Force Outstanding Unit award, the AF Commendation Medal and a few others.Baseball was still a part of Greg's life. He played on many teams within the military, calling his sister more than once to complain of sprained ankles, hurt shoulder and bruises to his body. He continued to play well into his forties. Another love and hobby, was singing. You could always count on him to show off his talents at local gatherings, Karaoke bars and even at a plain old bar b que.Greg retired from the military after twenty years of service and settled in Colorado Springs Colorado until he reunited with his youngest daughter in Maryland. Reunited with all three of his children was very sentimental for him. Tracy Thomas Martinez, Marcel Duray Thomas and Coradah Lynn Thomas.Greg leaves his three children, a loving sister, Denise Thomas Brown, brother-in-law; Steven Brown; son-in-law; Robert Joseph, nephews; Kevin and Troy Brown, and five grandchildren. He had two great nephews and five great nieces residing in Los Angeles.Visitation will be 2:00PM-4:00PM, Sunday, March 8, 2015 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E.
