Obituary of Russell Stuart Vogel

Russell S. Vogel died March 3, 2015 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs after a short illness. He was a Colorado Springs resident for 45 years.Russ was born in Reedsburg, Wisconsin on May 9, 1928 to Paul and Anna Kuehne Vogel, the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Paul, Sylvia and infant sister Patricia. His brother, Robert and sister, Marilyn survive.Russ graduated from Milton College in Milton, Wisconsin, where he met his wife, the former Jane Karberg, and from SMU Southwest Graduate School of Banking in Dallas, Texas. Jane and Russ were married June 20, 1953 in Janesville, Wisconsin. They were married for Sixty years before Jane's passing on June 23, 2013.Russ began his career with Household Finance Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin, where he and Jane made their first home. They later moved to Clinton, Iowa, where their first child, Catherine was born, and then to suburban Chicago, where their daughter, Nancy and son, Paul were born. Russ was employed during his this time by Lake Shore National Bank in downtown Chicago.Jane and Russ moved the family to Colorado Springs in 1970. Russ was employed by the First National Bank of Colorado Springs, later Affiliated National Bank and then BancOne, as Vice-President of Commercial Loans. He retired in 1993.After retirement, Russ continued his long involvement with the Colorado Springs Sertoma Club, where he served for many years as Treasurer. He volunteered his time to Ecumenical Social Ministries and most recently worked as Treasurer of the Resident's Council of Cheyenne Place, his home since 2010. Russ was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church for forty-four years.Russ is survived, in addition to his two siblings by three children, Catherine (Harry) Mosco, Nancy (Dana) Ohlson, and Paul (Joi) Vogel, three grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Wuestneck, Lauren Ohlson and Daniel Ohlson, and by his great-grandson, William Wuestneck.Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
