Obituary of Harold Bell Wright

Long time resident of Colorado Springs, Harold B. Wright, passed over early Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015. He was born in Grover Hill, Ohio, in 1920, the son of Otis (Tim) William Wright, and Laura Agnes Wright(Sutton); he graduated Valedictorian of his High School Class. He served in three wars, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star. When WWII ended, he went to Leland Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor of the Arts degree. After his retirement from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, he managed the School District 11 Credit Union for 12 years, taking it from $2.5 million, to more than $25 million, in assets. He was always active in the Republican party, and served as a poll monitor on several occasions during elections. He was also active and a regular donor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Federation for the Blind, and the Friends of the City Auditorium. Throughout his life, he loved music in general, and more recently, jazz specifically. As a member of the Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing society, he devoted himself to live music and was very active until shortly before his passing.Even more than music, he loved people; he believed that the only true wealth a person could gain, were friends and family; he always had a smile and good word for everyone. In 95 years, he touched more hearts and lives than can possibly be related here.He was preceded into the after-life by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Shields Wright. He is survived by his son, Harold(Hardy) Wright, daugter-in-law Paula Wright, his daughter Sumiko Wright, his granddaughter Laura Hess and his best friend and devoted dance partner of 10 years, Jeannie Long.
