Obituary of Lee "Sam" Roy Samuelson
Lee Roy "Sam" Samuelson, Chief Warrant Officer 3 (Retired) passed away at his home May 20, 2015. He was 67. Born in Pocatello, Idaho, he was the son of Alva Floyd Samuelson and Elva Rebecca Porter Samuelson. Sam attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Alameda Junior High School, and Pocatello High School. He also attended Idaho State University, in Pocatello, Idaho. He received a Bachelors degree from Columbia University, in Huntsville, Alabama. A 14-year employee of Northrup Grumman, Mr. Samuelson also had served in the US Army for nearly 31 years. During his Military career, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal—three times, Army commendation Medal—four times, Army Achievement Medal—two times, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal-two times, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-three times, and the Legion of Merit awarded at the time of military retirement.He was a member of the Warrant Officers Association, the Redstone Thrift Shop, and Army Community Service. He served as the Assistant Manager of the Redstone Thrift Shop. He was a Panoply volunteer every year since 2000. An avid sports fan, his favorite teams were the Auburn Tigers, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, and the San Francisco 49ers. Sam was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has served in many positions in the church. From Sunday School teacher to Elder's quorum President to LDS Group Leader in Camp Darby, Italy, to counselor in the Bishopric of the Fountain Valley Ward, Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Floyd Samuelson, and Elva Rebecca Porter Samuelson, and one brother, Larry Samuelson.He is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Samuelson; sons, Ricky Don Samuelson and Robert Kai Samuelson of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Charlotte Dannette Samuelson Cajiuat of San Diego, CA; and five grandchildren, Joshua Cajiuat, Rebekah Cajiuat, Caleb Cajiuat, Kaylah Samuelson and Joslyn Samuelson.
