Obituary of Derek Glenn Maurice Conrad

Derek Conrad who touched so many lives gracefully left us to be with Jesus.Derek graduated from Rampart High School in 1987. He then went on to University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and graduated Cum Laude in 1993 with a Bachelor Degree in Physics and Energy Science. He wanted to "accomplish something harder" (his words) so he achieved a Master's Degree in Physics in 1995. In 1997 instead of him using his degree in "satellite and rocket science stuff" (his words) he went to work for Colorado Springs Police Department as a software developer. Due to his work with the police department he felt his true calling was to serve his community in law enforcement which led him to become a deputy sheriff with El Paso County Sheriff's Office in 2004. Derek wrote he "never regretted his decision to become a deputy sheriff, despite the financial sacrifice". He also considered it an honor to serve as a member of the El Paso Honor Guard. We will remember him for his rock hunting, camping adventures (they were definitely adventures), and the many ways he enriched our lives. He kept the sun shining and left enough sunshine behind to last us the rest of our lives until we see him again. He is survived by his devoted wife Sherry and son Brian of Lake George, Colorado. His father and mother Maxwell and Sharron Conrad (Cronkite) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. His brother Eric and his wife Karen and their two children Logan and Porsha Conrad (Jones) of Peyton, Colorado. We will be together again one day "My Babycakes"Memorial Service, Friday, June 19, 2015 at Rocky Mountain Calvary Church, 428 N.
