Obituary of Dolores M. Whitelaw

Monument, Colorado: Dolores (Dodi) Marie Whitelaw passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 with her loving family by her side. Born on October 10, 1932 in New Rochelle, New York, her parents, Joe and Anna McCann passed away when Dodi was a child, and she was raised by her older sister Ann (deceased) and brother Joe. Dodi married James G. Whitelaw on May 17, 1958 in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, lived in Schenectady New York, and moved on to Wethersfield and Darien, Connecticut. In 1972, the family moved west, and she enjoyed forty-three years in the Monument, Colorado community. They raised four boys, and always enjoyed summers at their home on Ballston Beach on Cape Cod (Truro, Massachusetts). Dodi enjoyed tennis, and cherished the close friends she made, on and off the court. Dodi received the Monument Hill Sertoma Club Award for Outstanding Service to the Tri-Lakes Community for Significant and Meritorious Service to Mankind, and was generous and giving with her time to help others, including volunteering at Penrose Hospital as a chaplain, chairing the building committee for Saint Peter's Catholic Church in downtown Monument, volunteering at Tri-Lakes Cares, and Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Dodi worked diligently for six years as the President of the Lewis-Palmer School District Board of Education, subsequently, inducted into the Lewis Palmer Hall of Fame. She was most proud of the team she built, which guided the district into one of Colorado's premier academic and athletic institutions. She was a real visionary and leader.She is survived by her husband, James G. Whitelaw; brother, Joseph McCann of Verona New Jersey; and four sons and their families: Dennis and Joanne Whitelaw of Kennebunk, Maine, Kevin and Anne Whitelaw of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Chris Whitelaw of Denver, Colorado and Graham J. Whitelaw of Truro, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Graham A. Whitelaw, Boston Massachusetts; Josh Whitelaw, Monument; Kelsey Whitelaw, New York City; Christina Whitelaw, Denver; Jillian Whitelaw, Kennebunk; Emily Whitelaw, Denver; Katie Whitelaw, Colorado Springs; and Blake, Skylar, and Laird Whitelaw, Denver. Dodi is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
