Obituary of Bernice K Young

Bernice Kokott Young, 86, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, CO.She was born in Jamestown, ND on January 11, 1929, the daughter of Carl and Clara (Wojick) Kokott. Although raised on a rural North Dakota farm, she called Jamestown "home." Her family moved from their farm to Jamestown and Bernice was determined to attend a private parochial school. She worked at her father's café and for a photography studio to pay her tuition through St. James Academy Catholic High School. She graduated in 1947 and attended Central Dakota Commercial College to be certified in bookkeeping and accounting. In 1948 she met Les Young. They married on May 3, 1949 at St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown, ND. Thus began a life together that continued for 66 years, three children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She worked in retail and at Columbine Lakes Club House. Bernice was a member of St. Mary's Church in Littleton, CO. She donated many hours helping at their food bank and baking cakes for funeral receptions. She enjoyed cooking, baking (especially her mother's poppy seed coffee cake), going to "The Hills" to play the slot machines, sewing, bunco, card games and any reason to gather and entertain family and friends.Survivors include her husband Les of Littleton, CO, three children: Rainae (Chuck) Conarty, Colorado Springs, CO; Bob (Nancy) Young, Stanfordville, NY; and, Cathy (Ray) Dennerline, Longmont, CO; four grandchildren: Tallery Conarty, Colorado Springs; Molly (Josh) Porter, Monument, CO; Peter and Haley Dennerline, Longmont, CO; and, five great grandchildren, Anslea, Maislyn, Gaige, Cavan and Delaney along with many beloved nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Eileen and Delores; and, three brothers; Leonard, James and Lyle.
