Obituary of Laurene Miller O'Neal

Laurene Miller O' Neal, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2015 at a local hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and beloved friend. She was employed for many years at the Pikes Peak Manor and the Wendy's Restaurant on Fillmore Street.Laurene Miller was born on May 6, 1954 in Gary, Indiana to the late Lawrence and Eliza (Scott) Miller. After graduating from Westside High School in 1972, she attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama where she met and later wedded her husband of 39 years, Randal O' Neal. Laurene did many things during her life, but the thing that she did best was raising her son, daughter and later her grandchildren. She was the second cousin to the poet and writer - Langsten Hughes, which she never mentioned, but proudly displayed his works in her home. She loved cooking and crafts, but above all else, she was devoted to her family, her friends and her faith. Laurene was preceded in death by her mother and father. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Randal of Widefield; her son, Matthew (Katerina) O'Neal of Aurora, Colorado; her daughter, Juliet Watson-Johnson of Jamaica; her brother, Thomas (Gladys) Patton, III of Hinesville, Georgia; her two aunts, Ozell and Katheryn of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and seven grandchildren, Sean Johnson, Annalise Johnson, Favor Okiro , Faith Okiro, Sincere O' Neal, Persia O'Neal and Valentina O'Neal. She is also survived by her four nephews, Thomas "Skipper" (Rebecca) Patten, IV of Springfield, Virginia, Michael Patten, Kevin Patten and Thomas Patten, all of Hinesville, Georgia. Also left here to mourn her passing are her two very dear friends, Kelly (Mike) Putnam and Sadie Jacobs and her family, all of Colorado Springs.Visitation, 1:00PM-4:00PM, Sunday, July 12, 2015, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado and one hour prior to the services at the Church.
