Obituary of Marvin "Marv" Lee Smith
Marvin Lee Smith was born in Greenville, Texas to the parentage of Mae Wilma and Benjamin Smith, Jr. He was affectionately known by his friends as "Marv," but to his immediate family, he was "Butch." Marvin received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Park University, MO and served in the United States Air Force Band for 26 years. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant. His duty stations included: Wright Patterson AFB, OH; Warner Robbins AFB, GA; March AFB, CA; Offutt AFB, NB; US Air Force Academy, CO; and the Philippines. He formed the Marvin Smith Jazz Quartet and was featured on the front cover of the Lifestyle Magazine for the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado, in the spring of 2002. He also played with other bands. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his grandparents. He leaves to mourn his sons, Kevan (Peggy) Smith of Houston, and Kelley Smith of Kadena Air Force Base, Japan; sisters, Wilma King of Dallas, Judith (Cecil) Watkins of Cedar Hill, Jacqueline (Kwasi) Asafu-Adjaye of Rowlett; brother, John (Amesha) Smith of Dallas; two grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Louise Smith, Eddie Jones and Phil Perry; and extended family, Lee Ann (Steve) Wilson and family, and Sue Sinton and family.Visitation, 5:00PM - 7:00PM, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
