Stephen Michael BroekerJuly 15, 1959-July 28, 2015Stephen Michael Broeker was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, on July 15, 1959. He was the middle child of five siblings. After his mother's untimely passing, he was raised by his father and beloved grandmother. He met and fell in love with Deborah Leavitt in Saint Louis, and they moved to Colorado Springs to start a life together. They remained married for 30 years and had five children: Anna, Nicholas, Casey, Elizabeth, and Emily. At the time of his death, he was a proud grandfather of five: Caden, Brinlee, Cole, Elijah, and Blake. He also had three more grandchildren on the way. After his marriage had ended, he lived his final years with his high school sweetheart, Marina Intelligator, who became a part of his family. He was a loving son, brother, friend, husband, father, and boyfriend, and he touched many lives with his unique passion and zeal. Those who knew him best will remember his fiery spirit and the gentle heart beating within his tough exterior.He was a very talented artist, especially skilled at working with leather and wood. He sold his art to buyers around the United States, and he gave it away to friends and family, especially those he felt were in need of healing. He was a lifelong intellectual who studied religion and enjoyed debating politics, and he passed along his love of books and reading to his children. His many interests included taking in the peace of the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, working on home improvement projects, playing with his dogs Natasha and Boris, fishing, camping, and gardening. He died peacefully on July 28, 2015, after a long illness. He was surrounded by family and friends at the moment of his passing and will be greatly missed for many years to come. His service will be held at 12:30M on Saturday, August 1st, 2015 at Sunnyside Christian Church, 2025 N.
