Obituary of William Adolph Sonju
On the morning of September 11, 2015 William "Bill" Adolph Sonju passed away in the loving care of his family. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Betty (Hassig) and his sisters Adeline, Eunice and Mirian.Bill was born in the town of Boy River, Minnesota on February 8, 1930. He is the 5 and youngest child of Adolph Merienous and Mary Elena Sonju.Bill had a loving, giving nature. He liked to hunt and fish. He was a great dancer and he loved to tell family stories. All his children, including grandchildren, nieces and nephews, love the silly, sweet song he sang to them, the nicknames he gave us, and funny faces he made. He loved to play cards, cribbage and blackjack being his favorite. He had the talent to fix almost anything and enjoyed helping when needed.Bill served in the Army, Air National Guard and was a civil servant in the Air Force as a computer programmer and a housing officer. Other jobs included working in an orchard, farming, logging, the Forest Service, real estate and he worked at The Royal Gorge. He was an officer in the B.P.O.E. in Cripple Creek and he was a volunteer for the Loaves and Fishes delivering food to seniors.Bill is survived by his brother Winton Sonju of Davis, California, his sons Greg (Malisa) Sonju, William Sonju and daughters Delonna (Dean) Waters, Karen (Bob) Shaffer, Stephanie (Rick) Davis, eleven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
