Obituary of Jerome "Jerry" Hilliard

Jerome "Jerry" Hilliard Sr. was born on May 3, 1949, the second son of Stanley and Sally Mae (Curry) Hilliard, in Passaic, New Jersey. He was raised by his maternal grandmother Willie Mae Curry. Jerry was educated in the Passaic school system where he played the trombone in the marching band. Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Air Force which landed him here in Colorado after serving overseas in Germany. Jerry loved the Air Force and during his 18 year service he was often called upon to restore power to major buildings when others were not able to. While stationed in Florida, he met his beloved wife of 40 years, Katie. Out of this union, three children were born. Jerry was an amazing man who lived to provide for his family. His children and grandchildren were his life. He was not only a father to his own children, but served as a father figure to many of his children's friends as well. A father, husband, brother, mentor and friend to all who met him. Jerry's greatest accomplishment was the relationship nurtured with his children and grandchildren whom he dedicated his life to. Jerry loved the gospel and he loved to sing the gospel. His smooth tones brought peace and comfort to all who had the joyous opportunity to hear his gift. He sang with the Colorado Mass Choir and with his home church, the King Solomon Baptist Church choir. Jerry was employed for over 20 years with Checks Unlimited as a maintenance technician. He retired in July of 2009. Jerry was converted at an early age and baptized into fellowship. Jerry loved the Lord and knew He made no mistakes. On September 18, 2015 an angel dipped his wings and carried Jerome "Jerry" Hilliard home. Even at the end of his beautiful life he asked for his family and friends to rejoice the day he was called to God. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother Willie Mae Curry who raised him, a brother Stanley Hilliard Jr., a sister Rosita (Hilliard) Rozier and a niece Rasheeda Rozier. He leaves to celebrate his life, his loving wife Katie (Robbins) Hilliard, one daughter, Tera Almitra Hilliard (Lisa), both of Colorado Springs; two sons, Jerome Jr Hilliard (Sara) of Windsor, CO; Ephraim Hilliard (Kaile) of Parker, Colorado; a step-daughter Monica Rigsby (Joe) of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren (Jayshawn, Devon, Justin, Kiana, Rachel, Sabella, & Treylen) and five step-grandchildren (Patricia, Joseph IV, Keisha, Sean, Shante) ; three sisters, Wanda Hilliard-Shabazz, Belinda McIntyre, and Sandra Dye, all of Passaic, NJ; a brother Stacey Hilliard also of Passaic, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Johnson, and Clara Murrell; six brothers-in-law, Joseph Robbins, Leon Robbins, John Robbins and Albert Baker, Ephram Rozier Jr and Wayne Dye; one aunt, Amanda Jackson and a host of special nieces, nephews and other relatives, friends and neighbors living across the country.
