Obituary of Shirley M. Galpin

Mrs. Shirley Galpin, age 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, October 26, 2015 at a local hospital. She died due to a massive stroke and pneumonia. Mrs. Galpin was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs. During her life she saw many changes in the city she loved.She worked her entire career for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company; Later, AT&T from 1951 until 1991. She was a Telephone Operator and Service Assistant. She was also very involved as a Union Steward with Communication Workers of America Local 8408. Her belief was every employee deserved to be represented in labor matters. She was a proud lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.She was born Shirley Danhauer on January 27, 1933 in Old Colorado City to the late Melvin and Evelyn V. (Wheeler) Danhauer. She was a 1951 graduate of Colorado Springs now Palmer High School. She married Robert S. Galpin in June of 1958. Shirley was a gracious woman, a talented cook and had a one of a kind collection of cookbooks. She was a Lady that loved dining out, entertaining friends and collecting new recipes. She was an animal lover, a wonderful mother and friend with an incredible sense of humor. Mrs. Galpin is survived by her beloved son: Brian S. Galpin, a number of dear cousins and a grand dog Bambi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1989, her step father Frances C. Hoy in 1994 and mother Evelyn V. Hoy in 2002.
