Obituary of Robert "Bob" Ellis Hill

Robert "Bob" Ellis Hill passed away peacefully at his home in Monument, Colorado on December 5, 2015. Bob was 89 years old.Bob was born in Bellflower, California on October 2, 1926, the fifth child of Goodwin and Velma Hill. Bob's father was an independent oil producer with oil wells on Signal Hill in Long Beach, California. Bob and his brothers helped in all phases of oil production.Bob grew up in Bellflower, California and was a graduate of Excelsior High School in Norwalk, California. Bob was active in sports and student government. He also began interests in stamp collecting and collecting jazz and big band records.Bob served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat and was honorably discharged. He received an appointment as Principal Candidate to the United States Military Academy during his service.Bob attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in journalism. He worked for several local papers in Southern California before taking a position in the Los Angeles County Supervisors Office as Press Secretary.Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Trudy; children, Steven, Michael, Wendy, Kelly and Douglas; grandchildren, Marianne, Christopher, Jennifer, Jaimie, Sydney, Skyler, Cambria, Gavin, Amelia and Scarlett; great-grandchildren, Grace, Parker, and Steven; his brother, Lt. Colonel Watt Hill, USAF (Ret).A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00PM, Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade, Colorado Springs.Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the memorial fund of First Lutheran Church.
