Obituary of Salvatore "Sal" Peter Santaniello

Sal Santaniello, age 88, a resident of Colorado Springs since 2004, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 after a sudden stroke. He was a professional musician, a sales representative, a restaurant owner and most of all, a loving husband.Salvatore Peter Santaniello was born on April 27, 1927 in New York City to the late Philip and Elia (Demingo) Santaniello. He grew up in the Catholic faith and went to high school and college in New York. He quickly became a gifted trumpet player. He was the lead trumpet in The Stan Donahue Band that played the Paramount Theater in New York. He then had his own band that performed for New York weddings and bar mitzvahs. His band was a well known musical platform for famous vocalists like Tony Bennett, Mel Torme and Frank Sinatra. He knew them all. For years, they played the Catskill Mountains of New York.He then went on to work for the Revlon Corporation where he was the top ranked sales manager in the United States for many years. He later owned, in the 1980s, a chain of Burger King restaurant franchises in New York.Sal married the love of his life, Carolyn "Quimby" on September 15, 1994 in Boca Raton, Florida. He then joined the Lutheran Church. He was a student of World War II History, World History and the Bible. He loved to travel, play racquetball, listen to big band and jazz music, and read. He had a huge library and rare collection of books.This man of family and faith was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the "Up and Adam" Mens Bible Study where he had nearly perfect attendance in the ten years he studied with them. Sal was always seen smiling and had a tremendous love of people.He is survived by his beloved wife: Quimby of Colorado Springs; his sons: Scott Santaniello of Smithtown, New York; and Bill (and (Chris) Tarvin of Colorado Springs; his daughter: Dana Santaniello of Plainview, New York; and his grandchildren: Anthony, Cory, Taylor, Catarina and Samantha. He is also survived by his brother: Henry Montagni of The Hamptons, New York; and his sister: Marie Campainola of Manhattan. He will be dearly missed by his faithful poodle: "Reggie."Memorial Services are planned for 2:00PM, Monday, December 14, 2015 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Sal's name to the "Up and Adam" Mens Bible Study in care of Bethel Lutheran Church, 4925 Farmingdale Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917.
