Obituary of Max L. Bartleson

Max L. Bartleson passed away December 23, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose in Colorado Springs. He was born June 30, 1929, in Beloit, Kansas to Harold B. Bartleson and Gladys M. (Tilton) Bartleson. He attended and graduated from Beloit High School in 1948 while living with his grandparents on their farm. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Shamburg, in 1950. Over their long and happy life together, Max's work and their business ventures took them and their growing family to several different locations: Alliance, Nebraska; Fresno, California; Ft. Worth, Texas and twice to Colorado Springs where they settled in 1964. Upon their return to Colorado Springs, Max leased and operated the Knob Hill Conoco service station located at the corner of Platte Avenue and Circle Drive. Over the years, he acquired ownership in the station and expanded it to include Knob Hill Towing. Max was known in the community as a reputable and successful business owner. He served on the Conoco Dealer's Advisory Board for several years. Conoco honored him for his dedication to employee safety when he invented and built a "cage" to protect employees when working on tire repair equipment in the shop. Max and Kathleen shared the joy of exploring much of the country in their RV. He worked hard and played hard, also enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf. In his early 70s, he could still drive a golf ball more than 200 yards. Max is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughters Sherry (Roger) Scott; Kathy (Daryl) Roberts; and son Craig (Carmen) Bartleson; his grandchildren Lisa Coffman, Kimberly Reichert, Gavin Scott, and Brandon Bartleson; and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in passing by his wife, Kathleen, an infant daughter, his sister Phyllis Akers, and brothers John and Harold Bartleson Jr. A Graveside Service is planned for January 22, 2016, at the Scottsville, Kansas cemetery where he will join his beloved wife, Kathleen, on their 66th wedding anniversary. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers of Pikes Peak Hospice who attended Max with the great care and dignity during his final days.
