Obituary of Victor "Vic" Stephen Schaff
Victor "Vic" Schaff, age 85, passed away on January 27, 2016 at a local hospice. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Postal Service.Victor Stephen Schaff was born on a farm near Buffalo Springs, in Slope County, North Dakota on January 20, 1931 to the late Joseph and Katherine (Brittner) Schaff. He joined the US Navy at age 17 and learned to play the guitar. Vic often said that during his long deployments on the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Toledo, he played music from New York to Hong Kong. He married Lleanna Sue Parker and raised a family. He became a Chief Postal Clerk while serving his twenty three years in the Navy. After his retirement from the Navy, he became a Letter Carrier.Vic and Lleanna lived on forty acres near Calhan where he built the "Jerky Kitchen" and made beef jerky. He was known as "Jerky Vic." He loved to tell jokes, have fun and make people laugh. He is survived by his wife, Lleanna Schaff, his three sons: David Brumfield, Jimmy Brumfield and Michael Schaff. He has one daughter: Heidi Schaff.He is also survived by his sister; Violet Jochim and his brothers: Jim Schaff, Eugene Braun, Kenneth Braun and Thomas Braun; several grandchildren in North Dakota, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe Schaff and Katherine Braun; his daughter: Vicky Schaff and his sister: MaryLou Buzalsky.Memorial Service, 1:00PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the VFW Post in Calhan, Colorado.
