Obituary of Walter Eugene Campbell
Walter Campbell passed away peacefully after courageously battling cancer. He was born on May 5, 1938 in Colorado Springs to the late Annie and Cecil Campbell.He was preceded in death by his siblings; Dorothy Freeman, Lawrence Campbell and Alice Gehrke; and granddaughter, Rhiannon Vantassel.Walter grew up in Ellicott and graduated from Ellicott High School in 1956. After military duty, he worked at Oak Farms Dairy (Southland Corporation) in Colorado Springs for twenty-seven years and then moved on to Sinton's to work six more years.He was an avid Broncos Fan and loved John Wayne movies. His passion was spending time at their cabin on Table Rock Lake, Shell Knob, Missouri, boating and being with his "Lake Family". Walt was a caring, kind and fun loving man. He will be remembered for his love of family and will be deeply missed.He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-four years, Lou Campbell; daughters, Dee (Chuck) Hancock, Debby (Brian Smith) Vantassel and Delicia Campbell; grandson, Travis Vantassel; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Gwen; and numerous relatives and friends.Walt's family would like to thank the RMCC nurses (our Angels on Earth), staff, and Dr. Matei for their care, support and kindness during his battle and the Memorial Hospital nurses, staff, and doctors for their care and kindness during his last days.Memorial Services, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 4:00pm, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
