Obituary of Col. Donald Allan Reeves

On the 17th of February 2016, Don passed away while under the compassionate care of the Pikes Peak Hospice unit at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was 90 years old.Don was born on September 2, 1925 in Buffalo, New York to Eric John Reeves and Dearborn Anna Reeves (Smith).After growing up in upstate New York and Florida, Don graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1943. He received a BS degree from Syracuse University in 1948. He also earned an MA and MBA degree from Michigan State University in 1962.In 1944, Don met his future wife, Melba Ray Harris, in Elkins, West Virginia while attending Davis & Elkins College as a cadet with the Army Air Corps. They were happily married for 68 years.He is survived by his loving wife, Melba of Surprise, Arizona; sons, Donald Allan (Madlyn) Reeves, Jr., of Woodland Park, Colorado, Eric Ray (Tami) Reeves of Bruch, Germany; and daughter, Deanna (Jack) Reeves Friedman, of Forest Grove, Oregon. Don is also survived by two brothers, John "Jack" Eric Reeves of Pittsford, New York, and Robert L. Jerson of Springfield Center, New York; as well as, five grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. His sister, Eileen Littell of Cooperstown, New York predeceased him.During his 30 years in the Air Force, Don was assigned to many locations including the Aleutian Islands, Vietnam, Michigan, Colorado, Washington, DC, Bitburg-Germany, and Wiesbaden-Germany. After retiring from the Air Force in 1974, Don began a second career as a Certified Public Accountant in Colorado Springs, Colorado working at Trichak, Trainor & Tillman and eventually establishing his own accounting practice. He retired from accounting work in 1986 and enjoyed living in Nevada, Florida, Arizona, and Colorado. He was a Mason and member of the Shriners. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, winning at poker, traveling in Germany, savoring good German beer, fishing and motor homing.Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Tuesday, February 23, 2016, Memorial Pavilion at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery with a reception to follow. Guests should enter the Air Force Academy at the North Gate from Exit 156 off of I-25.
