Obituary of Frances Carlene Bruce

The LORD called Frances Carlene Bruce (age 81), early Tuesday morning, the 23rd day of February 2016, from Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, to take her home to be with her Heavenly Father.Fran, known by many as "Momma", was born a southern farm girl. She was born in Laurel, Mississippi and raised in James County, where she graduated from the Agricultural High School in May 1952. She enjoyed her yard work and house plants. All her life she was growing something. She had a green thumb.In June 1952 she joined the USAF and eventually ended up in Colorado Springs at ENT AFB. Fran sent her AF paycheck home to help her parents and six siblings. To have money to live on herself she worked at the VIP room on base. She had the unique opportunity of seeing Charles Lindbergh. In June 1955, after serving during the Korean War, she was honorably discharged in Colorado Springs.During her time of service she met the love of her life, her "Honey", a local police officer Roger Bruce. She had two children Bridget Denise & Douglas Bryan Bruce.Fran went on to further her education at Pikes Peak Community College taking courses in accounting. During her lifetime she worked at several interesting places. She worked at the El Pomar Foundation and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo at the Broadmoor, completing her career at LSU Zoology Department where she retired.Fran is survived by her two sisters, Gail Williams & June Walters; one brother, Danny Murphy; two children, Bridget and Douglas Bruce; three grandchildren Betty-Jo Powell, Larry Pedrazoli II and Joshua Pedrazoli, six great-grandchildren; Leighton, Samara, Larry III, Shane, Nicholas, and Tyler. Also, the love of her life, her "Honey", Roger M.
