Obituary of Constance A. Gelvin

A longtime resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Constance passed away unexpectedly at her home on March 7, 2016. Her tenacity, generosity, and over-the-top sense of humor will be deeply missed by all those who knew her well.Born in Everett, Washington, on February 9, 1950, to Samuel and Mary Gelvin, she was to be the oldest of four daughters. When Constance was nine years old, the family relocated to Colorado Springs- which was to be her permanent home. She attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for both her bachelor's and master's degrees. In 1983, Constance drove herself cross-country to The Farm, an intentional community in Summertown, Tennessee, to give birth to her daughter, Vanessa.Constance devoted her career to furthering the missions of numerous local non-profit organizations, including the United States Space Foundation, American Heart Association, Benet Hill Monastery, Ecumenical Social Ministries and Temple Shalom. After her workday ended, she would often stay late to write novels, plays, and short fiction. She is the author of A Christmas Angel: Colorado Springs, Colorado, 1909, a murder mystery entitled No Reason to Lie, and numerous other works set in fictional versions of Manitou Springs, Colorado and Colorado Springs, Colorado.Constance was preceded in death by her father, Samuel J. Gelvin, and her sister Becky Olsen. She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Wood Gelvin; her mother, Mary Gelvin; and her sisters, Felisha Arasmith and Laura Hubbard. Constance will be greatly missed by her extended family: Patrick, Courtney, Caleb, and Madison.Memorial service celebrating Constance's life, 2:00PM, March 17, 2016, First Congregational Church, 20 East Saint Vrain Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
