Obituary of Edwenia Maria Saldivar

Edwenia Maria Saldivar, age 79, died on March 21, 2016 at a local hospice following a long illness. She was a retired field worker who had worked for many years in an onion factory. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, godmother and friend that will be best remembered for her love of her large family.Edwenia Maria Trujillo was born on July 4, 1936 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Guadalupe and Elveria (Pacheco) Trujillo. She grew up in Fowler, Colorado and the family later moved to Rocky Ford. She was employed by the frozen foods department of Great Onion Company.She later worked at a pickle factory and the Stauffer Packing Company. She married Daniel G. Saldivar on February 27, 1978 in Colorado Springs. The couple moved to Texas and then back to Colorado to raise a family. Edwenia was known for her wonderful tamales, her biscuits, spanish breads, and her baking skills. She loved to sew, crochet and spend time with her family.She is survived by her former husband: Daniel G. Salvidar of Security, Colorado; son: Joe Martinez of Security; son: Charlie (Lorraine) Martinez of Hugoton, Kansas; daughter: Pearl (Lloyd) Gallegos of Rocky Ford; daughter: Stella Martinez of Colorado Springs; daughter: Lupe (Ralph) Gallegos of Rocky Ford; daughter: Felipa (Adam) Saldivar-Brown of Fountain; sisters: Gertrude Trujillo of Denver; Antonia Aragon of Manzanola; Candelaria (Estevan) Lopez of Lamar; Mary Vigil of Lamar; and Madeline Trujillo of Lamar.She has thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchldren and two godchildren. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00PM, Monday, March 28, 2016 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80909.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 South US-85/87, Security, Colorado, 80911.
