Obituary of Michael "Mike" Lynn Wilson

Michael Lynn "Mike" Wilson passed away March 26, 2016 at his home in Colorado Springs where he resided for 17 years.Mike was born on July 17, 1963 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Neal Ernest Wilson and Joanne Marie (Dudley) Wilson. Mike spent most of his younger life in Enfield, Connecticut where he graduated from Fermi High School. He volunteered with the Enfield Rescue Squad. Mike spent a year in Germany, before attending the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Natural Resources and Wildlife. Mike continued his education, while working for the University, and was 20 hours away from finishing a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering. Mike met his wife, Karen Hayes at the church his grandparents attended in Ashland, Nebraska.They exchanged wedding vows on March 22, 1986 at 2pm, when they were both 22 years old.Mike loved the outdoors so much that he decided to make it his office. Plants were his life, and his education and work brought him in constant contact with them. His knowledge of them exceeded most people, for he could tell you the scientific name and common name of almost any plant. During his career, he became a Certified Arborist and Licensed Pesticide Applicator.Carving was Mike's passion and his hobby. He could take a block of wood and turn it into something that spoke to people's hearts.Mike was active in his church. Bells and choir were his extended family. He helped with any landscaping needs around the church and served as a deacon and most recently an elder. Mike would put his heart and emotion into his prayers both at home and the church.Mike's humor and laughter touched all of those around him. His love for his family and friends was unwavering.Mike is survived by his wife, Karen Wilson; dogs, Sitka and Snickers; his mother, Joanne Wilson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernie and Julie (Halper) Wilson and Dave and Val (Falls) Wilson; his uncle and aunt, Jamie and Jen (Bahm) Wilson; and his nieces and nephews, Lee, Hallie, Eddie, Cora, Billy, Andy, Emilie, Becca, Bryce, and Brooke.Visitation, 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, April 1, 2016 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
