Obituary
Obituary of Jerry Ira Lubell
Jerry Lubell passed away at home following a long, arduous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on October 19, 1943 in New York City to Norman and Mildred Lubell. Jerry graduated from high school in Waterford, Connecticut and then followed his family to Seattle, Washington where he enrolled at the University of Washington. He left the University with degrees in electrical and nuclear engineering. He met his wife, Carol, in Seattle and they were married in 1966. Jerry's first employer was TRW Systems in Redondo Beach, California. A job opportunity in Colorado Springs allowed the family (now including Mark) to relocate and also welcome a second son, Eric. Jerry would always tell you that his dream jobs were being in a rock and roll band and/or being a race car driver. How he managed to become a nationally recognized expert in developing EMP systems is still a mystery to his family. In his words, his "proudest accomplishment was helping with the design, installation and testing of the STRATCOM command center where President Bush sheltered on the day of 9/11." If you are interested in learning more about EMP and have 45 minutes to spare, Google Electronic Armageddon/Jerry Lubell, a production National Geographic Explorer. Jerry's passion was always family first, followed by a love of anything with a motor - high performance automobiles, high performance racing, military aircraft, etc. As a teen, he was trained to spot and identify aircraft flying overhead by sight and he continued doing so throughout his life. He was a voracious reader of anything historic, could do complex mathematical computations in his head, loved good wine, music, traveling and gathering with family and friends over good food; Thanksgiving was always #1 in his book! Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Mark (Sheryl) and Eric (Kristin); and two beloved, loving grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Susan Oya and Sheryl Woo (Brian) and their children and grandchildren. He will be missed by family, friends and peers. A celebration of life will take place in early summer. If you are interested in attending, please leave your contact information for Carol at jlubell@aol.com along with any messages for the family.
