Obituary of Thomas Ian Monteith
Thomas Ian Monteith, 49, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, entered his eternal rest on May 9, 2016. He was born to William and Anna Mae Monteith on April 20, 1967 in Great Falls, Montana. He grew up loving football, fishing and reading. In 1985, following high school graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Tracy, and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS John C. Calhoun ballistic missile submarine for the next five years. Tom answered a call to ministry in September 1989 and began preaching in Jacksonville, Florida in 1990 at West Shores Baptist Church. From there he moved back to Colorado Springs, Colorado and served as a Youth Pastor, Missions Director, and Football Coach at Hilltop Baptist Church. While there, he also taught physics, biology, chemistry and Bible classes in the high school. In 2002, Tom became the Senior Pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he stayed until December of 2012. He loved people and thrived on helping everyone he met, which led to his desire to start a church and ministry; Open Grace Bible Fellowship & Ministries, in 2013. He and Tracy also co-authored a book addressing mental health in the church. Everyone who knew him, knew they were considered family. Tom is survived by his wife, Tracy Monteith; he was the very proud father of four children, Micheil Monteith, Jonathan (Carly) Monteith, Christopher (Jess) Monteith, and Kaitlyn (Mike) Malacara; five adorable grandchildren; and three siblings, James (Debbie), Doug (Melinda), and Kerri. Tom struggled with many health issues and pain for most of his life. Praise God, he struggles no more! As Tom went home to be with the Lord, he was welcomed with the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
