Obituary of Viola Beth David

"Vi" David, aged 97, passed away peacefully at ViewPointe Retirement Community on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. She had resided at ViewPointe for over twelve years and had many friends in that community. She was very happy and surprised to be voted Valentine Queen in 2015. Her family is very grateful to the staff at ViewPointe for the care and love shown to Viola throughout her residence there, but particularly grateful for her caregivers since moving to the Memory Care area.Viola was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Leslie James David. She missed him greatly after his passing. A daughter, Darlene Lucille, her parents and two brothers also preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters, Barbara (Ron) Richter of Colorado Springs and Nancy Carmichael of Plymouth, Indiana (son-in-law, Robert Carmichael preceded her in death just 3 months ago); son, Richard (Edith) David of Dallas, Oregon. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Eleanor Terrell; sister-in-law, Geraldine Terrel; and beloved nieces and nephews. Viola was born in Forest Park, Illinois of the union of Ward E.L. Terrel and Eleonora L. H. Hinkel. She lived in the Chicago suburbs until she and Les moved to Colorado Springs in 2002 from Berkeley, Illinois. They loved the mountains and enjoyed their time living here. She was fulfilled by her wonderful marriage and their children, and was a stay-at-home mom with the exception of a short employment at the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Chicago after her children were grown. After moving to Colorado Springs they enjoyed the friends they made here. She was especially comforted by her very close friends after Les' passing.Gentiva Hospice provided her gentle, loving care for over two years. Viola and her family were blessed to have the nurses, chaplain and volunteers from Gentiva in her life. A kind, loving and thoughtful soul, she will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
