Obituary of Jerry Wayne Childs

Jerry Wayne Childs was born to Sidney Vessey Childs and Lois Mae Ables, in Nacogdoches Texas at 7:00 A.M on January 6th, 1948. At only 68 years old, he left us too soon. He hated cold weather, but with much greater force, he loved his family, he loved his friends, and he loved cars. Nothing was dearer than family to him. In them, he found his truest joy. For them, he'd face any opposition. He never met a stranger, and his friends counted him loyal, fair, and true. And the cars? Cars were his language of love. To some he may have seemed a contradiction, as hard to discern as his unique shorts and cowboy boot ensemble (worn on more than one occasion). But to know him, is to know he wasn't a contradiction at all. He was the only him, he could have possibly been. "Make your own path..." he would say "...don't follow someone else's." He leaves behind two brothers, one sister, a loving wife, seven kids, eleven grandchildren, a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins, and countless that call him mentor, counselor, commiserator, colleague, advocate, empathizer, sympathizer, guide, or car buddy. His foot may no longer dip in our gulf waters, but his ripples will continue to sea long after all of us are gone, as well.
