Obituary of Sara "Sally" Welch Kinney
Sara W. Kinney, known to her family and friends as "Sally" died June 3, 2016 at Crown Crest of Parker in Parker, Colorado after a long illness. She was a retired Licensed Professional Counselor at Penrose Hospital for over 28 years. She was also a loving mother, grandmother and compassionate friend. Sara Welch was born on April 29, 1937 in Rock Island, Illinois to the late Ira Clifford and Ethel Hillmer Welch. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Rock Island and graduated from high school there. She received her Bachelor of Arts at Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa.She taught the first grade at St. Pius X School in Rock Island, Illinois and the third grade at Hillcrest School in East Moline, Illinois. She and her young family moved to Colorado Springs in 1970. Most of her professional career was served at Penrose Hospital and Penrose Cancer Center, from 1976-2004. She received her Master of Arts at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and performed her Doctoral Studies there.She was an active on the Professional Governance Boards of the American Cancer Society, Odyssey Hospice, and Women Partnering (where she was also a volunteer.) She was a member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church. She is survived by her children, Margaret (Ilan) Waskow, and Daniel (Wendy) Kinney; her grandchildren, Aaron and Emily Waskow; and several cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by two children who died very young... her son, Michael, who died on October 9, 1992 and her daughter, Eileen, who died on July 10, 1993.Her Visitation will be held at 10:00—11:00AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 Carefree Circle North in Colorado Springs. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00AM Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.Sally met people at the point of their greatest need in facing cancer and other serious illness; treating them with her many professional skills and always with grace and dignity. She was responsible for helping them and their families emotionally face the illness, as well as their financial and social circumstances. She went above and beyond in giving them what they did not have and making their last wishes and dreams a reality. Memorials may be made in her name to Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region or to Holy Apostles Catholic Church.She was a woman of faith and courage who will be deeply missed.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
