Obituary of Donald Lee Farmer
Donald (Don) L. Farmer, 85, of Colorado Springs passed away on June 3, 2016 at Pikes Peak Hospice. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Don was born in Girard, Kansas on June 20, 1930 to the late Don and Mildred Farmer. He received a B.S. Degree in Accounting and Business Administration at the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas in 1952. He enlisted in the army and served his country for two years during the Korean War.After returning to Kansas, Don met the love of his life, Doris J. Unruh, and they were married on June 22, 1957 in McPherson, Kansas. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1961. He worked for several accounting firms in Colorado Springs before starting Farmer & Company in 1984. He served many clients over the years, not retiring until he was 83.Don was an active member of First Christian Church for over fifty years and was a longtime member of the Garden of the Gods Rotary Club and the Colorado Springs Country Club. He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-nine years, Doris; five children: David, Denise, Deidra, Debra and Daryl; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one step-grandson. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Brandt, and a brother, Roger Farmer. He is remembered as a kind, hard-working man with integrity who enjoyed spending time with his family, serving his clients, traveling, and going to the family's cabin in the mountains.
