Obituary of William "Bill" David Porter
Born on May 9, 1953 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill was the second son of Ron and Louise Porter. He died in Colorado Springs on June 27, 2016 after a long battle with esophagus cancer. Bill graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Master's Degree in Education. He loved books and was the owner of several antiquarian bookstores in Colorado Springs over the years, including The Round Table, Bijou Street Bookfinders and Adventures in Books. He published the literary magazine, Journeys, in the mid-1990s here in Colorado Springs. Bill was a multifaceted person, and his pursuits included writing both fiction and non-fiction works, an early career as a special education teacher, a stint as a social worker for El Paso County's Department of Human Services, and volunteering his time to causes he valued including help for the disadvantaged and charity work in both Colorado and Guatemala. One of his favorite past times was traveling and he had done so extensively in Latin America and Europe. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Thomas Porter. He is survived by his loving son, Joseph Douglas Porter (Mallorie) of Littleton, Colorado, his brother, Ronald Porter (Chris) of Pittsburgh, and his beloved companion, Karen. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at Bijou Gardens, 411 W. Bijou Street, on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a reception at the home of Karen Anthony. All are welcome.
