Obituary of Stephen "Steve" Yslas

Stephen Sanchez Yslas, 57, passed away on June 30, 2016 at Penrose Hospital from a 22-month battle with cancer. He was a retired United States Army veteran, loving husband, father, and grandfather. Stephen was born on November 15, 1958 in Port Hueneme, California to Henry and Emily Yslas. He is survived by his wife, Rita; two sons, Robert (Laura) and Reuben (Sonya); seven grandchildren, Rico, Anthony, Lillyana, Alyssa, Alonzo, Nelaya, Nathanyel; his beloved mother, Emily; his sister, Sylvia, and other loving family members. Stephen spent his life mentoring, helping and servicing others. He always had a smile on his face and was available to lend a helping hand. He was a decorated (Bronze Star) two-time war veteran (Operation Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom), served two years with the Colorado Springs Police Department, and ten years with School District 11. He was loved, admired, and respected by faculty and students.
