Obituary of Martha "Marty" Carol Corder

Ms. Martha Corder of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 6, 2016 at the age of 75. Marty was born to parents David Dobbin and Phyllis McNeilley on December 23, 1940 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a child she helped run Dobbin Grocery, the family business. She grew up as the eldest of three and attended General William J. Palmer High School. She earned her Bachelors Degree in English from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. She worked as a teacher for a short while. Following that, she became a receptionist and an administrative assistant for Goodwill and Colorado Sports and Spine Center. She enjoyed being involved in politics by hosting caucuses, making phone calls, and being proactive in her community. Later, she would often volunteer at her nursing home by running the store and being involved every chance she got. Marty was a truly gifted painter. She enjoyed painting landscapes with both oil and acrylic. She would paint field of grass with meticulous detail. She captured sunsets and running streams with her detailed style. She loved painting. In the nursing home she took over a closet in the round room to store her supplies. She would paint away an afternoon. Marty never accepted the limitations of her disability and continually rose to accept new challenges.Marty had two children, Aaron (Boomer) and Marilyn. Boomer describes her as being a strong but fair parent with the patience of a saint. Her two children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren survive her. She is also survived by her younger sister, Janet and many cousins. Her brother, David, precedes her in death.A Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, July 11, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the Library of The Union Printers Home.
