Obituary of James Coolidge Price

Jim Price, age 80, died peacefully on July 19, 2016 with his family by his side at Penrose Hospital after a long illness. Jim was born to Mac and Chancy Price in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina on April 16, 1936, six weeks premature, surviving the first of many occasions during his lifetime where he would cheat the Grim Reaper. He grew up in Elkin, North Carolina. His family moved to Portsmouth, Virginia where he graduated high school and went to work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, preparing to be an electrical engineer. While there, he was recruited by IBM and became a Computer Software Engineer. He worked for IBM for thirty-five years and then Lockheed Martin until he retired in 2003 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During his career, he traveled across the United States, making major contributions to Military and Civilian projects including the FAA, Space Shuttle Program, and GPS.Jim met and married the love of his life, Ellen, in Elkin, North Carolina. They have been married for over 61 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lee Chantry.He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his daughter, Beth from Colorado Springs; his daughter, Debra and her husband, Joe Schierhoff from Arnold, Missouri; his son, Lincoln, his wife, Nina, and their daughter, Francesca from Longmont, Colorado; his sister, Audrey Sandhoff from Virginia Beach, Virginia; many nieces and nephews; and four-pawed buddies. Jim would be the first to say that he had an amazing life and many hobbies. He was an avid golfer, skier and bowler. He loved all animals, especially his Airedale, Allie. He will always be remembered, not only for his dry wit, beautiful blue twinkling eye, and wonderful smile, but also for his loyalty, intelligence, passion for life, and most importantly, his integrity and ethics towards all.
