Obituary of Harvey Lewis Childs
Harvey L. Childs, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on July 22, 2016 at a local care center. He was 86 years young. He was born on August 22, 1929 in Lee County, Virginia to Fred and Amanda (Riggs) Childs. He grew up in Decatur, Tennessee as one of ten children, was drafted into the Army in 1951, and served two years at Fort Carson. While in Colorado Springs, he met the love of his life, Peggy, at a roller skating rink and always kidded that they had been going around and around ever since. They married on March 6, 1953.After the Army, Harvey worked as a civilian at Fort Carson and also drove a Taxi before being hired at the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1984.Harvey loved to bowl, fish, and play card games with his neighbors. He also loved hugs from his grandkids.Preceding him in death: Peggy A. (McNeal) Childs, his wife of forty-six years, five sisters and three brothers. He is survived by two sons, Michael (Linda) Childs , Patrick Childs, and a daughter, Pamela (Robert) Luff . He is also survived by six grandchildren, Amanda, James, Lisa, Kathleen, Timothy, and Suzanne; five great-grandchildren and two on the way; a sister, Gracie (Danny) Housley; and numerous nieces and nephews. At 15, Harvey accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and we have assurance that we will see him again. Memorial contributions can be made in Harvey's memory to Pikes Peak Hospice or Laurel Manor.
