Obituary of Loretta Fredericka Buckingham

Loretta Fredericka Buckingham, 4 days short of being 84, passed away peacefully at home, on August 3, 2016, surrounded by her devoted husband, Jack, of 65 years, and loving family. Gotfried G. Strobel and Fredericka Stickel Strobel gave birth to Loretta on August 7, 1932, in Marsh, Montana. She lived her early years with her ten siblings: Fred, Oscar, Albert, Lorenze (Herb), Annette, Barbara, Olga, Ruth, Rowena and Emma. When she moved to Terry, Montana, she met and grew up with the love of her life, Jack Lyle Buckingham. They were married on December 28, 1950. Loretta and Jack had six beautiful children together: Carla, Jan, Collin, Thatcher, Mia and Mathew. Loretta became a homemaker. When Jack was commissioned in the USAF, she took on a new role as the wife of a military officer. She often said how much she loved being a military wife. They had the wonderful opportunity to be stationed together in places like Alaska, Hawaii and Germany. When Jack retired in 1980 after thirty years of service, they settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Throughout the years Loretta and Jack were very involved with Communita Parva Little Parish, a Catholic group. They often traveled and camped with the CSRVA and Aerospace Sams camping groups. Loretta helped coordinate annual family reunion campouts, bringing the family together on many occasions. She enjoyed the Red Hat Society and was active in the Officers Wives Club. Eventually they became "snowbirds" and made their annual trek to Yuma, Arizona.Loretta enjoyed being active in all the various activities the kids were involved in such as birthdays, performances, sports, and Scouting. She was a loving grandmother to Bill, Randy, Beca, Dolan, Taven, Zachary, Halee, Grace, Tyler, and Kaitlyn, and great-grandmother to ten more beautiful children. The most important things to Loretta were her husband, family and her faith. She was a devoted member and volunteer of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church. She especially loved to have a houseful of family and friends for the holidays and other special occasions. She also enjoyed entertaining and spending time with friends and neighbors. She loved to meet people, chat, share stories and laugh.
