Obituary
Obituary of Wilmer Arturo Fernandez
Art was born in Caracas, Venezuela. In 1980, he came to the United States and graduated from Castro Valley High School in California. Afterwards, he attended Ontario Bible College in Toronto, Canada, for one year. Then, he came back to California and learned the trade of hardwood flooring from his older brother Willie. They worked together until 1996 when he started Artistic Hardwood Floors, a business he kept until his passing. He moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1998 where he excelled with his business. He was honored in 2012 by the Best of Colorado Springs as the Top Flooring Contractor. He was blessed with ten children and was married three times. Grace Fernández and Deborah Fernández were his first and second wives. At the time of his passing, he was married to Ivette Fernández. He loved his ten kids dearly and proudly boasted of all of them. He always loved to serenade his daughters, practicing martial arts with all kids made him so happy, and he enjoyed making a big breakfast for everyone and going to the gym with his sons. He was also very proud of his granddaughters.Art was a man with a big heart who was willing to help anyone in need. He had a great love for his nephews and a jealous, protective attitude toward his nieces. He even had "the shotgun talk" with several the girls' boyfriends.Art fought a 33 year war with drug addiction. He sought help from his friends on Earth and his God in Heaven. Though he lost the battle on Earth, he received the welcome and peace of his Father in Heaven. He was a man who loved the simple things in life. Since childhood, he loved plants and animals; most recently, he was fond of his dog Nibbles. He worked with his hands and built things from the ground up. He left a legacy that is entirely his own and he always worked hard to protect what he held dear. Art was fiercely loyal to his friends and family but he would also go the extra mile for anyone who needed help. He had a contagious smile that he wore almost every day and he faced each new day with determination.Memorial Service, 5:00PM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Faith Covenant Church, 4965 Barnes Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
