Obituary of Sgt Maj John "Jack" Alfred Winnard, U.S Army,

Sgt. Major John Alfred Winnard, 88, left this world August 24, 2016 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Winnie, next to his side.John, known more commonly as "Jack", was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to Elizabeth Caldwell and Joseph Bullough Winnard from England. Jack was a first generation American who could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He joined the United States Army after high school, serving during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. In addition to being stationed across the United States, he worked throughout the world in nations such as Korea, China, Taiwan, Germany, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Jack was fond of spicy food, gin and tonics, and game shows. He was also a big fan of travel, dancing, golfing, reading and solving crossword puzzles. He enjoyed feeding hummingbirds, caring for wild and stray animals, and he fiercely loved his family, Anglican community, and soldiers. His generosity and fortitude were an inspiration to all who knew him. Jack retired in Colorado Springs during the 1990's.
