Obituary of Sgt Maj John "Jack" Alfred Winnard, U.S Army,

Sgt. Major John Alfred Winnard, 88, left this world August 24, 2016 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Winnie, next to his side.John, known more commonly as "Jack", was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to Elizabeth Caldwell and Joseph Bullough Winnard from England. Jack was a first generation American who could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He joined the United States Army after high school, serving during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. In addition to being stationed across the United States, he worked throughout the world in nations such as Korea, China, Taiwan, Germany, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Jack was fond of spicy food, gin and tonics, and game shows. He was also a big fan of travel, dancing, golfing, reading and solving crossword puzzles. He enjoyed feeding hummingbirds, caring for wild and stray animals, and he fiercely loved his family, Anglican community, and soldiers. His generosity and fortitude were an inspiration to all who knew him. Jack retired in Colorado Springs during the 1990's. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Winnie; daughters, Linda (Ronald) and Diane (James); four grandchildren Logan, Connor, MacKenzie, and Kyra; in-laws, Sang K (Yong), Sang M (Misun), Suzy (Kim), and Kyung H (Sawada); nephews and nieces, Charley, Molly, Joey, Jinney and Eddie; and countless others who were fortunate enough to know him.Services to honor and celebrate Jack's life will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, August 29, 2016 at The Soldiers Memorial Chapel, 6333 Martinez Street, Building 1500, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80913.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909 Events Service Monday, August 29, 2016 10:30AM Soldiers' Memorial Chapel 6333 Martinez St. Building 1500 Fort Carson, CO 80913 Phone: 719-328-1793
