I just saw this Kay and am so very sorry. I had no idea that Jim was sick. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I'm not sure if you know, but Scott also died about 21 months ago from an aggressive form of cancer. I have no doubt they're watching over us. â

Jim was a beautiful person, a great mentor, a wonderful colleague, and I will miss him. I am glad I got to know and work with Jim. His memory will live on and his legacy is still unfolding as the many he has helped throughout his distinguished career grow into professionals. I wish his family all the best during this difficult time.

All I've known of Mr Rendleman was from his daughter Selina. It was always good to hear her talk about her Dad with such respect and love. I was always in awl of his accomplishments, and the pride she had in him. I wish I'd known him, and am so sorry we've lost such a good man and father. Kay, Selina and Martin - May God carry you through this period of sorrow.

I'm stunned and at a loss to know how to share my sadness about Jim's moving on to ever greener pastures. We had a full agenda to discuss at the forthcoming moot court competition. So, If you see me sitting by myself at a coffee table in the midst of a vigorous conversation splattered with much humor, you'll be certain to know that Jim is still around...and very much in charge!

Jim was a great help to me when I was VP of the International Institute of Space Law. He infused our colloquia with his good humor, energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the international community of space lawyers and policy makers. He was fun to be with and have a beer or two. I will miss him. Jonathan Galloway

I had the pleasure of working with Jim while we served together at JFCC SPACE...as they say, we went to a lot of the same meetings. He was always quick with sound legal advice, usually paired with a humorous anecdote about the matter at hand. His contributions were many, and he will be sorely missed both personally and professionally. I am better for having known him. Godspeed Jim. Col (ret) Todd Spradley

I first came to know Jim through his writings when I was researching my LL.M. thesis. His excellent ideas provided the spark that truly crystallized my own argument. Soon afterwards, I had the honor to meet Jim when he judged our team's space moot court performance in the spring of 2014, and when we both attended a space law conference not long after that. He was full of his usual good humor, and we hit it off well from the beginning. I started working with Jim full-time in August 2014, following in Erik's footsteps at the JSpOC. An outstanding mentor, Jim quickly came to feel more like family than a mere supervisor or co-worker. He always had a twinkle in his eye and was generous with his time, advice, and resources. We worked closely together on many projects, and his insight was invaluable. I miss his wisdom, his conversation, and his humor, but most of all his friendship. May he further brighten Heaven as one of its newest citizens, even as he brightened our lives and so many others on Earth. And may God comfort you, Kay, Selina, and Martin.

I had the privilege working with Jim for three years at JFCC Space as one the Operational Law Attorneys. We shared an office at the JSpOC together. Jim was a Jedi Knight of Space Law, a true master and I was his young apprentice. He was one of the kindest, funniest and warmhearted people I know. He was a mentor of the highest regard and most of all a wonderful friend to my family and I. Working with him was one of the highlights of my military career. He was a writer second to none and I remember Jim was never too busy to offer help, walk you through a complex issue or put a smile on your face with his humor. Jim left an indelible mark on my life, on my career and he demonstrated what it truly meant to have someone in your cornerâ₦always. I will miss you so much Jim. We all will. Godspeed Jim. Love you my friend. Erik, Mary, Cole & Ava.

Jimmy was my growing up vacation / Rendleman beach reunion buddie -- we wore the Windy Hill putt putt out, it was one we were allowed to walk to - was 25 cents to play -- we ran the beach & swam together. Had incredible times together. E- mailed thru the years -- he would send his articles he submitted. Way over my head but I tried to read & understand them -- too many memories to write -- overwhelmed with them and sadness. My love to Kay, Selina & Martin --- what a great man! Love, Jane Ellen Rendleman Cotner

Jim was a wonderful person and a very dedicated member of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL). He presented many excellent papers, and served in various functions, for instance as member of the Moot Court Committee. He judged semi finals of the competition and was (co-)author of several Problems for the competition. He was very committed to helping the new generation of space lawyers along, and enjoyed their company. Jim also helped me out in the jungle of Roberts' Rules when I had to conduct difficult meetings of the IISL. I remember him and Kay drilling me on how to cope, and he would not hesitate to intervene during the actual meeting whenever the correct procedure was not followed, which sometimes annoyed members and even led, to our amusement, to the title 'so-called parliamentarian', a title he immediately adopted and cherished ever since :) Jim had a great sense of humour, even when I visited him a month ago, and that is an admirable attitude. He will be dearly missed by the space law community. I hope he will see us from above, and smile. I know he will also miss being with us. Godspeed, dear Jim! Tanja Masson-Zwaan, President IISL, The Netherlands

It was a pleasure to have worked closely with him in IISL matters, especially the Lachs Moot Court. He could always be depended upon when asked, and his wit and contributions will be missed. Cousin Jim...I'll miss his ever-present smile and good humor (except when discussing politics) and talent on the golf course for finding water, earning him the nickname of "The Dowser" We were cousins-at-a-distance but caught up every year at that special family beach week. Hope to see Kay, Selina and Martin at the next one. You are all in my thoughts Cousin Dave Rendleman

I knew Jim first as Colonel Rendleman when he was the US Air Force Reserve Advisor to Headquarters Air Force Space Command. He was a tremendous champion for integrating the Reserves and Active Duty components in achieving our space operations. He was a personal mentor to me and had a direct impact on my professional growth as an Air Force officer. It was a bright spot to get to work with him as the JFCC SPACE lawyer as well. He is sorely missed. Our country is better off for his service.

I have so much appreciated Jim over the years. His help during my time as Executive Secretary of the International Institute of Space Law was unvaluable. He always had a wonderful way to view issues, always positive, always with a smile and great sense of humor. It was so pleasant and fun to work with him. I will miss him and will keep many fond memories. Corinne Jorgenson

I don't ever remember meeting Jim, he just suddenly became this ubiquitous colleague that was always there with a smile, solid advice, and good joke. In the same way he became a friend. I'll miss his friendship and his services as "so-called parliamentarian."

Kay, Selina and Martin, I just watched the slide show that depicted the many lives of Jim. What a wonderful life he lead and what a wonderful family he has. It was clear to me and I am sure shared by many that his sense of humor (he always a good joke regardless of the situation) his care and love of his family and his career defined him so clearly. Yes, it is a sad day to lose someone who was so special to us all, yet in his passing, we all realize that it's ok and truly is a part of our lives that we start another new journey. You will be missed by many Jim with your new journey and I look forward to seeing you again. Knowing the many blessings that you left with us and the power of the Devine that you expressed in your life and in the lives of others, I am comforted and give thanks to knowing you Jim. Thank you for your wonderful contribution to the world and I will live another day in the knowing that we crossed paths at a wonderful time in our lives with our sons and the self expression of the joy being ever present and living life to its fullest, Robert Smith
