Obituary of Melcher "Mike" Ray Campos

Mike was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Frances and Andres Campos and joined the U.S. Navy during WWII in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the Navy Mike settled in Colorado and where he met his wife, Mary. They married on August 11, 1952. They resided in Littleton and Centennial, Colorado most of their married lives until recently moving to Colorado Springs to be near their daughter Gina and her family.Mike developed and interest and expertise in the lighting industry and worked for several different lighting companies in and around Denver until he and Mary established their own business, Arapahoe Lighting in 1971. Their first store was located on South Broadway in Englewood. They moved the store to a location near University and County Line Road in 1992 and operated Arapahoe Lighting for a total of 31 years before retiring from the business. Mike was a very industrious man and loved staying busy. He worked at Sam's Club for a few years after retirement just to stay active.Mike is survived by his wife; Mary, siblings; Ray, Toni, Victor, Elizabeth, Andy, Nick and Mona; children, Michelle and Gina, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Mike was a rabid and passionate Denver Bronco fan which influenced his entire family. He is remembered as a generous, honest, and warm and loving man. Those who knew and loved him have been inspired by him as a perfect example of what a man should be. His courage, fairness, loyalty and humor will be missed by us all.
